Journal and Newspaper Finder
The Journal and Newspaper Finder lists the 9,000 print titles available in the HSU Library and the 12,000 online fulltext titles available in databases provided by the HSU Library. Included are magazines, journals, newspapers, and serials. Online fulltext titles are available remotely to current HSU students, faculty, and staff. See Off-Campus Access to Databases for additional information on remote access.
For author and subject access to individual articles in periodicals, newspapers, and serials you must use indexes listed on the Articles and Databases page.
Available titles can be identified using the following two options:
- "Journal Title Keywords or Abbreviations"
- Enter title keywords in any order, e.g., psychology child. Words you enter are automatically "anded" together.
- Words are automatically truncated, e.g., ecolo finds ecological, ecology, and gynecology.
- Common journal abbreviations can be entered, e.g., JACS finds Journal of American Chemical Society.
- All titles that contain the keyword(s) you enter are displayed in a table that shows dates of coverage and database(s) where the title is found.
- "First Word(s) of Journal Title or Single Letter to Browse Alphabetically"
- Enter the beginning word(s) of a periodical title. You only need to enter enough words to retrieve a unique list, e.g., journal of biological.
- Omit initial articles, e.g., a, an, the.
- Enter a single letter, e.g., the letter c, to do an alphabetical browse of all titles that start with the letter you enter.
- Results are displayed as an alphabetical browse list in table format that shows title, dates of coverage, and database where title is found.
If you do not find your title using the browse search option, try a keyword search.
If you have difficulty deciphering an abbreviated journal title try the print and online sources listed in Finding Periodical Title Abbreviations.
For more comprehensive lists of electronic journals, some of which are freely available, see Electronic Journals.
